Entre las civilizaciones de Asirios, Fenicios y Cartagineses son desarrolladas las primeras plazas comerciales impulsadas por el transporte marítimo. Durante el imperio Romano el comercio tuvo un impulso decisivo, son mejoradas las vías de comunicación terrestres que se expanden por mas de 90.000 Km, así las provincias intensifican el flujo de negocios favorecidas también por la utilización de un sistema monetario único, aparecen instituciones como el Collegium mercatorum, el Forum y las Basílicas, y se legisla en materia comercial dando mayor seguridad a las transacciones.

En el siglo XIV aparecen las lonjas como antecedente inmediato de la bolsa, esta es una institución típicamente mediterránea, de origen italiano, que desarrollaba sus actividades en un inmueble fijo, operando por primera vez ya no con mercaderías a la vista sino con los valores que estas representan. La primer bolsa nace en el año 1531 y es denominada Bolsa de Amberes luego de un largo proceso que deviene de las lonjas, esta se erige bajo la inscripción de: “para uso de los comerciantes de todas las naciones y de todas las lenguas”.
La bolsa Mexicana de Valores es la institución sede del mercado mexicano de valores, la cual es responsable de proporcionar la infraestructura, la supervision y los servicios necesarios para la realización de los procesos de emisión, colocación e intercambio de valores y títulos inscritos en el Registro Nacional de Valores (RNV), y de otros instrumentos financieros.
Asi mismo, hace publica la información bursátil realiza el manejo administrativo de las operaciones y transmite la información respectiva a SD Indeval, la cual es la encargada de hacer transferencias, compesaciones y liquidaciones de todos los valores involucrados en las empresas emisoras y casas de bolsa en cuanto al estricto apego a las disposiciones aplicables además fomenta la expansión y competitividad del mercado de valores mexicanos.
¿Cuál es la importancia de una bolsa de valores para un país?
Las bolsas de valores de todo el mundo son instituciones que las sociedades establecen en su propio beneficio. A ellas acuden los inversionistas como una opción para tratar de proteger y acrecentar su ahorro financiero, aportando los recursos que, a su vez, permiten, tanto a las empresas como a los gobiernos financia, proyectos productivos y de desarrollo, que generan empleos y riqueza.
Las bolsas de valores son mercados organizados que contribuyen a que esta canalización de financiamiento se realice de manera libre, eficiente, competitiva, equitativa y transparente, atendiendo a ciertas reglas acordadas previamente por todos los participantes en el mercado. En este sentido, la BMV ha fomentado el desarrollo de México, ya que, junto a las instituciones del sector financiero, ha contribuido a canalizar el ahorro hacia inversión productiva, fuente del crecimiento y de empleo en el país.
